About the Tour
Enthralling and beautiful Amer has located almost 9-10 km from the capital city of Jaipur of the Rajasthan state. It was the stronghold of the Kacha that was kings of Jaipur before they moved to the current Jaipur in the 18th century. Before the arrival of the Kacha was Amer was ruled by a tribe called Meena and they were good warriors. This story goes like this, a meena chieftain adopted a Rajput, Kachhawa prince and was taking care of him, when the prince grew up, grew his ambitions to become a king himself. Once important meena chiefs were busy in a ritual taking bath in a pond before offering prayers to their deity. The prince attacked them and slaughtered the meenas and it is said that the pond was red with blood. Thus he became the king of Amer but there is a saying in Spanish ‘Lo Que Hierro Mata, Hierro muere’, which means who kills by the sword dies by the sword. The mennas took revenge soon and killed the king who did the treachery. But soon peace prevailed between meenas and Kacha was and meenas were given the post of royal guards of the treasury.
